Medochemie Pegasus, a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cyprus, required a warehouse storage solution capable of maximising pallet capacity within the fixed footprint of their new production and distribution centre. The client faced the familiar constraint of limited floor space coupled with growing inventory requirements—a challenge particularly acute in pharmaceutical operations where controlled storage conditions and regulatory compliance demand dedicated warehouse zones.
Traditional static pallet racking would have left significant aisle space permanently unoccupied. SPIMA specified an SSI Schaefer mobile racking system, where entire rack blocks move laterally on floor-mounted rails. By eliminating fixed aisles and creating a single working aisle only where access is required, mobile racking typically delivers within the same building envelope.
The installation incorporated seismic bracing to meet Cyprus seismic zone requirements, ensuring structural integrity during ground movement. Each mobile rack block was engineered to carry whilst maintaining safe operation of the motorised base carriages. The system allows Medochemie Pegasus operators to open any aisle on demand using, providing full selectivity across all pallet locations despite the condensed layout.
SPIMA's scope covered the complete supply and installation of the mobile rack system at the new facility. The project required coordination with the building's floor slab specifications, as mobile racking imposes and demands a level surface within.
The completed installation enables Medochemie Pegasus to store compared to a conventional static racking configuration in the same warehouse area. Pharmaceutical inventory now benefits from high-density storage whilst retaining direct access to every pallet—a critical requirement for lot traceability and expiry date management in pharmaceutical distribution. The mobile racking system supports the facility's operational efficiency without requiring building expansion, delivering maximum storage return on the available warehouse investment.
