Mitsios Trading Ltd required a complete loading bay solution for a new warehouse extension that would add of distribution capacity to their Cyprus operations. The project centred on creating ten fully functional dock bays from ground up, integrating both overhead access doors and dock levelling equipment into a single coordinated installation.
The challenge lay in designing a dock area that would handle while maintaining operational efficiency across all ten positions simultaneously during peak distribution periods. Unlike retrofitting existing infrastructure, this new-build extension demanded that SPIMA coordinate structural requirements, door opening dimensions, and leveller pit specifications before construction was complete, leaving no margin for dimensional errors that would compromise equipment installation.
SPIMA specified sectional overhead doors for all ten dock positions, selected for their vertical opening operation that maximises usable wall height and eliminates the swing radius that traditional up-and-over doors require—critical when dock bays sit close together in a linear configuration. Each door was paired with a dock leveller engineered to bridge the gap between warehouse floor and vehicle bed, compensating for the height variation between different vehicle types serving the facility.
The dock levellers provide capacity and high lift travel, allowing operators to service everything from small rigid trucks to full-height articulated trailers without manual handling risks or load damage from steep approach angles. The sectional doors' insulated panel construction contributes to temperature control within the warehouse, reducing energy loss during the extended periods that dock bays remain open during loading operations.
The installation delivered ten operational dock positions that function as an integrated system rather than ten separate bays. Mitsios Trading gained the capacity to process multiple inbound and outbound vehicles concurrently, eliminating the queuing delays that single-bay or poorly planned facilities create during high-volume periods. The coordinated specification of doors and levellers from the design stage ensured that all equipment installed correctly to structural tolerances, avoiding the costly remedial work that results when loading bay components are selected independently without consideration for how they interface with building fabric and each other.
