ROSSS Seismic Pallet Racking for Large Limassol Hotel

Client: LARGE RESORT IN LIMASSOL

Location: LEMESOS

Year: 2023

A large hotel in Limassol required a warehouse storage solution capable of meeting Cyprus's stringent seismic building regulations while maximising vertical storage capacity in their logistics facility.

The challenge centred on compliance: Cyprus falls within a seismically active zone, and any pallet racking installation must be engineered to withstand lateral forces during an earthquake. Standard racking designs, while structurally sound under static loads, do not incorporate the base-plate reinforcement, frame bracing and anchor specifications required by local seismic codes. The hotel's procurement team needed a system that combined with full documentation proving compliance with Eurocode 8 seismic design standards as applied in Cyprus.

SPIMA specified a ROSSS seismic pallet rack system, assembled to 5.1 metres in height. ROSSS seismic racks are factory-engineered with reinforced upright frames, heavy-duty base plates and certified anchor points designed specifically for seismic zones. Each frame is calculated to resist horizontal accelerations while maintaining structural integrity and load-bearing capacity. The 5.1-metre configuration allowed the hotel to exploit available ceiling height without exceeding the limits imposed by the building's structural survey, maximising storage density within the available footprint.

Installation was carried out in accordance with the project's seismic certification requirements, including anchor torque verification and frame-plumb tolerances specified in the structural engineer's report. The completed racking system provides the hotel with compliant, high-density pallet storage for, backed by the structural calculations and certification documentation required for building authority sign-off.

The project demonstrates the importance of specifying storage systems that meet not only operational requirements but also the regulatory and safety standards governing seismic construction in Cyprus. ROSSS seismic racking enabled the hotel to achieve full storage capacity without compromise on legal compliance or structural safety.
