Olympos Dairy required a storage solution for their machine parts inventory that would maximise vertical warehouse space while maintaining structural integrity in a seismic environment. The challenge lay in combining high-density pallet storage with accessible walkable levels, all engineered to Cyprus seismic codes.
SPIMA specified a multi-tier mezzanine system integrated with ROSSS Iron Fist pallet racking as the structural foundation. This approach differs from conventional standalone mezzanines: the racking framework itself supports the upper levels, eliminating redundant columns and preserving ground-floor circulation space for forklifts and pallet movement.
The ROSSS Iron Fist system was selected for its load-bearing capacity and seismic certification. The racking serves structural support for the walkable decks above—creating of usable warehouse space within the existing building envelope. The upper tiers provide access to while ground-level aisles remain clear for high-turnover pallet handling.
Seismic engineering was central to the specification. Cyprus falls within an active seismic zone, and any multi-level structure must withstand lateral forces without compromising worker safety or inventory integrity. SPIMA coordinated structural calculations to ensure the integrated racking-and-mezzanine assembly met requirements, with appropriate bracing and anchoring throughout.
The installation delivered in effective storage area without building expansion. Olympos Dairy gained the capacity to store theor machine parts while maintaining compliance with warehouse safety regulations. The multi-tier configuration also improved picking efficiency for by concentrating related inventory vertically rather than spreading it across distant aisles.
This project demonstrates how purpose-engineered racking can serve as infrastructure for mezzanine construction, reducing material cost and installation time compared to independent steel frameworks.
