Insulated Dock Solution for Delicacy Foods
Client: DELICACY FOODS
Year: 2019
Delicacy Foods required a complete loading bay solution that would maintain temperature control during goods transfer while ensuring efficient vehicle access. The company needed to prevent temperature loss at dock interfaces, a critical requirement for food distribution operations where cold chain integrity directly affects product quality and regulatory compliance.
The challenge centred on creating an effective thermal barrier between refrigerated storage areas and the external environment during loading and unloading operations. Without proper insulation at the dock interface, temperature fluctuations compromise stored goods and increase energy costs. The facility required equipment that could seal the gap between building and vehicle while accommodating different trailer heights and maintaining operational speed.
SPIMA specified an integrated system combining three Stertil components: dock levellers to bridge the height difference between warehouse floor and vehicle bed, inflatable dock shelters to seal the perimeter gap around the trailer, and ConDoor sectional doors for rapid vehicle access. The Stertil dock levellers provide to accommodate varying trailer heights. The inflatable dock shelters deploy around the trailer perimeter once the vehicle is positioned, creating an insulated seal that maintains the cold chain during transfer operations.
The ConDoor sectional doors complete the thermal envelope, opening quickly to admit vehicles then closing to restore temperature control between loading cycles. This configuration eliminated the thermal bridge that occurs with conventional dock arrangements, where air exchange continues throughout the loading process.
The installation addressed Delicacy Foods' operational requirements by maintaining consistent internal temperatures during frequent loading cycles. The inflatable shelter design adapts to different trailer profiles, ensuring an effective seal regardless of vehicle type. The integrated solution demonstrates how proper dock equipment specification protects temperature-sensitive inventory while supporting efficient logistics operations in food distribution facilities.
