EFAFLEX SRT Stainless Steel Doors for Blue Island Fishery Facility

Client: BLUE ISLAND

Year: 2018

Blue Island, a fishery facility, required a reliable door solution to maintain strict temperature control in their processing environment. Fishery operations demand both rapid access for workflow efficiency and the ability to preserve cold-chain integrity, particularly in facilities handling fresh seafood where even brief temperature fluctuations can compromise product quality.

The client faced a dual challenge: doors needed to cycle frequently to accommodate continuous movement of personnel and materials, yet minimize the time cold air could escape. Standard industrial doors either operate too slowly, creating bottlenecks and thermal loss, or lack the hygiene-grade construction required in food processing environments. Additionally, the facility required automation that would not interrupt workflow or demand manual intervention from operators whose hands are often occupied.

SPIMA specified two EFAFLEX SRT high-speed doors in stainless steel finish. The stainless steel construction addresses the corrosive environment typical of fishery facilities, where moisture, salt exposure and regular washdowns rapidly degrade standard finishes. High-speed operation reduces the duration of each opening cycle, directly cutting thermal transfer between temperature zones.

The doors were equipped with motion sensors for touchless activation. This approach eliminates the need for manual switches or pull cords, allowing workers to pass through while carrying bins or pushing trolleys, and reduces contamination risk from repeated hand contact with controls. Motion sensor activation also ensures doors close promptly after each passage, maintaining the temperature differential the client required.

The EFAFLEX SRT model combines rapid cycle times with robust construction suitable for demanding industrial environments. Its design accommodates the repeated opening cycles characteristic of active fishery operations while the stainless steel finish meets the hygiene standards expected in food processing facilities.

The installation demonstrates how specifying doors matched to both the operational tempo and environmental constraints of a facility delivers functional value beyond simply providing access between spaces.
