EFAFLEX High-Speed Spiral Doors for Medochemie Distribution Centre
Client: MEDOCHEMIE PEGASUS
Year: 2019
MEDOCHEMIE PEGASUS operates a distribution centre in Limassol serving pharmaceutical logistics across the region. When the company commissioned a new purpose-built facility, efficient separation between loading bay areas and controlled storage zones became a critical design requirement.
The challenge lay in maintaining environmental boundaries between external loading docks and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical storage areas while accommodating high-frequency vehicle and personnel traffic. Traditional sectional doors would create bottlenecks during peak loading operations, while swing doors could not deliver the thermal separation or speed required for a pharmaceutical DC operating under GMP considerations.
SPIMA specified EFAFLEX STR high-speed spiral doors to separate the loading and unloading bay areas from the storage zones. The STR platform uses a patented spiral technology where the door leaf wraps around itself as it opens, achieving opening speeds that eliminate queuing at transition points while the rapid closure cycle minimises air exchange between climate zones.
The spiral mechanism occupies minimal lintel space compared to conventional overhead doors, a constraint that mattered in a new-build where ceiling-mounted services had already been planned. The installation allows Medochemie to maintain between zones while processing during normal operations.
The project demonstrates how high-speed door technology addresses the dual requirements of pharmaceutical distribution: operational throughput that keeps pace with modern supply-chain demands, and environmental control that protects product integrity from loading dock to storage rack.
