High Speed Doors

IMG_0177

The deep freeze room is accessed by 2 sliding doors, behind which are installed 2 high speed doors from the leading manufacturer in the field, Efaflex. These 2 high speed doors have been designed to operate at -25 C and are to be operated when the sliding door is open, i.e. during working hours.

How they operate

The high speed doors stay open throughout the night when the panel sliding door is shut. When the sliding door is opened however during working hours, the high speed doors jump into action and serve as the barrier between forklift and freezer. A sensitive radar detects the forklift when it approaches (either side of the door) then it opens to let it pass through. After a number of seconds (which is configurable) the door then shuts to preserve the energy in the freezer. The door opens at 2m per second to allow quick access to the forklift.

Door features

The door side panels have in built heaters from the outside to prevent any ice forming on the specially fabricated curtain, as well as hot air fans that keep the springs inside the side panels at room temperature. The door curtain also has a safety edge that makes the door open when any obstacle is touched and a light barrier to detect any moving object at the time of closing. A pull down chord is also present for any staff having to enter by foot to do picking etc.

It opens and closes with amazing precision via a frequency controller, i.e. accelerates smoothly to 2m/s and decelerates to zero in the same fashion.
